Description

Xochitl Ruth Bader Bernstein Buenaventura is an STI contact tracer - aka Sex Detective - and her life's work is ensuring that every citizen of Los Angeles County can have all the safe, shame-free sex their hearts desire. Not that she'll ever experience that again, now that she's suddenly single and living at home. She's always felt like an outlier in a family of Ashkenazi Jews, ever since her Mexican mother died. But at least she has her work and if she solves just one more case, she'll finally get the promotion to prove her worth. Xochitl won't let anything throw off her Sex Detective game...which is easier said than done, when the patient in her latest case turns out to be her former crush from high school. Cristian Martinez has destroyed his life and got kicked out of an art residency program. Then he really hits rock bottom when he's visited by a Public Health caseworker who informs him that he's been exposed to an STI. An extremely flustered, strangely familiar caseworker, who, for some reason, he can't stop thinking about. When his ex-girlfriend denies everything, Cris and Xochitl team up to uncover the truth. Their investigation leads them to an underground adultery ring, and to the complete misuse of a public health tip line to send flirtatious messages. As secrets come to light, their growing attraction threatens to jeopardize the case and ruin Xochitl's hard-won career. Because the most important rule of being a good Sex Detective is never to fall for your client.
