Description

After hearing of her estranged mother's death, a twenty-something art student re-examines her itinerant teen years in this fictionalized memoir. Connie was twelve when her mother sought a separate path to an unencumbered life in San Francisco, leaving her daughter pinballing around two states among friends, family, acquaintances, and even strangers. Published at the dawn of the #MeToo movement, Latchkey Highway chronicles an ordinary girl's not-so-ordinary journey on the west coast in the mid-eighties-a kinetic tale of new homes and new friends, colorful cohorts and subtle adversaries, strange days and imaginative nights. A shrewd ingnue learns to adapt and to never get too comfortable, and that where disappointment and danger are routine, creativity is consolation, art is joy. A kid fumbles her way into adulthood and every once in a while, the world spins right for a bit before spinning right out of control again.
