Description

At the end of the eighteenth century, the once-powerful Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth came to an end. The years leading up to and following its gradual disintegration were marked by a blend of reformist aspirations, failed initiatives, and acts of betrayal. This book explores this complex period by focusing on the life of Princess Izabela Czartoryska (1745-1835). As a prominent and outspoken member of one of the most influential political families, she played a significant role in shaping the public image of the reformist movement, often through carefully orchestrated public displays. The book delves into the social dynamics within public spaces such as theaters and landscape gardens, highlighting the connection between historical events and their visual representation in the public eye. In this context, the life of one woman offers valuable insight into the intricate nature of the era's events and cultural trends.
